Farmersville Elementary School

We believe that students are capable of doing many  extraordinary things.  We trust that the children who enter Farmersville Elementary will join our community with a sense of respect and integrity.  Students should be able to be themselves, work hard and be enriched everyday.  We are so glad to have your child here with us at Farmersville Elementary and we hope to see you involved in our community, as well.

Our  Farmersville Tigers are the most important part of our Community!

A Hello from Ms. Hilton:

Hello, Farmersville families!

Spring finally came at 12:57:00 PM on Thursday, March 20th, 2014.  It could not get here fast enough!  We are all due for some mild temperatures and bright colors after the winter season we endured.  Of course most of us will once again look forward to the changing seasons at the end of summer and welcome back the thought of snow days and the world blanketed in white.  Just as our seasons come and go, school years seem to pass by with the same dramatic but anticipated changes in our children.   I’ve started to notice how much taller our kindergarteners and first graders have gotten since August and how our fifth graders walk the halls with more confidence.  It makes me appreciate even more the precious minutes I have with my little one at home before he’s walking the halls of an elementary school or headed to middle school!

Our intermediate students will be diving into the PSSAs when you receive this edition.  PSSA scores play a pivotal role in school funding, building performance scores, and teacher evaluations, as dictated by the PDE.  However, it’s imperative to keep standardized tests in perspective.  I was reminded of this by our Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Silva, who shared this thought with the principals: “As we head into the PSSA and Keystone testing season, please take a moment to remember that the BASD Roadmap and district goals are built on the premise that if we provide rich, deep, and engaging instruction that addresses the whole child the test scores will take care of themselves…. The more we convey "test prep" as a key strategy, the more we avoid the real challenge of teaching and learning in authentic and personalized ways.”  We are very fortunate to have leadership and teachers that focus on the child and not the test.  We expect our children to work hard and do the best they can on the PSSAs, just as they do on every task we ask of them, but our students, our staff, our school, will not be measured by a standardized test score alone.  Farmersville is far greater than a number!

I want to thank our families for their continued support and participation in our fundraisers and community outreach projects, including Basket Bingo, Family Nights, Giant A+ Rewards, Scholastic Book Fair, Panera Night, Clothing Drive, and many more.  We have new opportunities to become involved this spring.  Please keep an eye on the school calendar for upcoming events.
